Macalister River

There's always a story behind the inspiration for a painting. This piece depicts the Macalister River, which I would describe as an oasis in the middle of nowhere, tucked away in Victoria's Gippsland region.
While traveling through Victoria, we often relied on Google Maps, which led us down a rugged dirt road and eventually to a tiny micro-town of just five residents, with a bridge spanning the Macalister River. We stopped to explore the bridge, have a picnic lunch, stretched our legs, and soaked in the tranquil scenery.
I wandered along a narrow path through layers of grass, rarely trodden, and discovered the serene beauty of the shallow, tannin-stained river, flanked by majestic Red Gums.
Have you ever visited? Do you know this place? It's on the way to the charming, historic village of Jamison.
After several attempts, I finally captured the scene as I envisioned, and every moment of inspiration was well worth it!
I love teaching, but I'm so glad I'm painting again!
Sending you kindest of regards,
Anica xx
