I'm fascinated with Proteas and have found out that they go back 300 million years! I have dissected this protea and learned they are not a single flower, but numerous, hundreds of flowers clustered in one base. The petals we see on the outside are actually coloured leaves that hug the flowers and are known as floral bracts.
